INVESTIGATION OF THE USABILITY OF ZIRCONIA NOZZLE WASTE INSTEAD OF ZIRCON IN WALL TILE GLAZE COMPOSITION

Recycling has become a regular activity around the world. However, some industrial wastes with high reuse potential in our country still require special studies to develop solutions suitable for their targets. Due to the depletion of raw material reserves, the decrease in the quality of raw materials and the increase in transportation costs, studies on the use of waste materials obtained as a result of production are increasing instead of searching for alternative raw material sources. This study is to demonstrate the research of recycling zirconia nozzle wastes into high-value products for the use of wall tile in ceramic glaze composition as an alternative to zirconia within the scope of industrial symbiosis. First, XRF and grain size analysis were applied to the zirconia waste and compared with the standard used zircon. Then, waste was added instead ofzircon in the wall tile matte glaze composition. Chemical resistance, staining, color values and XRD analysis tests were applied to the glaze compositions. At the last stage, pattern work was carried out on glaze compositions. As a result of the study, it was seen that it is possible touse zirconia nozzle waste at a rate of % 6. It has been observed that the addition of waste does not cause surface defects in the fast double fired wall tile matte glazes. It has been concluded that the paint additive applied to the surface reduces by 30%. In terms of the new glaze formula, the use of zirconia nozzle waste in the glaze composition made this study unique. However, zirconia nozzle waste must be separated and processed before use.
